LaSS Game Day at Kiverstone Hall

For the second year running, the LaSS Game Day took place on the 12th October. This time around we had the great pleasure to be invited to the wonderful Kilverstone Hall Estate outside Thetford in Norfolk. Kilverstone Hall is owned by Lord Fisher and boosts a 3,000-acre parkland estate, complete with a deer park and perfectly set up for some great game shooting. As anticipated, the LaSS Game Day turned out to be immensely popular and we were pleased to have a total of 12 ladies join us on the day on single and shared pegs. We were particularly pleased to have a few ladies join us for their first ever game day! We started the day with tea, coffee and...

LaSS Double Orange Cake

Ok, so I call it a LaSS but actually I’ve borrowed most of the recipe from Mary Berry (she knows her baking so it tends to be a safe bet). Anyway, this is the cake we treated all the ladies to at our latest clay day at Eriswell Lodge and if you want to give it a try yourself, here it is… For the cake 225g baking spread 225g self-raising flour 1 level tsp baking powder 100g golden caster sugar 100g brown sugar 4 large eggs finely grated zest of 2 oranges For the butter icing 150g butter, softened 300g icing sugar, sifted finely grated zest of 2 oranges For the glaze 25g caster sugar juice of 2 oranges Heat...

Eriswell Lodge & ‘The Floppy Droppy’

On Saturday the 26th of September 2015, we headed off to Eriswell Lodge near to Brandon, Thetford on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Eriswell Lodge is on the old Lakenheath Shooting Club site opposite RAF Lakenheath and by god have they put a lot of time, money and skill into updating everything! Lovely ground with a HUGE variety of stands including the wonderfully titled ‘Floppy Droppy’ which is literally a test of reaction time – imagine a clay starting at the ground, lifting around 2 meters in the air and only travelling for 3/4 meters and fast and thats the ‘The Floppy Droppy’! Lets just say that it may have messed up the scoring averages…. We had over 25 lovely ladies join us for the day,...

Great British Game Evening at The Lavender House

The delicious recipes from our wonderful LaSS Great British Game evening at the Lavender House All recipes have kindly been provided with permission of The Lavender House and The Richard Hughes Cookery School Tonno di Coniglio (Rabbit like Tuna) – Serves 10 as a starter Rabbit cooked like tuna. This is the inland version of tuna in oil. It’s a dish that expresses the ingenuity of agricultural communities far from the sea, where fresh sea fish would have been unobtainable, and tinned tuna expensive. Rabbit, on the other hand, was relatively inexpensive and readily available. The rabbit is poached until tender, taken off the bone, and then marinated in olive oil, garlic and sage. The meat takes on that particular firm, flaky...

Blackberry Cheesecake

For us, LaSS is not just a great excuse for us to get out and shoot some clays and make new friends, it also a brilliant opportunity for us to practise our culinary skills and bake up some goodies for our lovely ladies. Since we’ve had quite a few ladies asking to have the recipes for some of the goodies we thought we’d share them here on the blog. First out is Linn’s blackberry cheesecake that we served at the dog training day on the 6th September.  Ingredients  Serves: 8  150g digestive biscuits 50g butter 300g cream cheese 145g icing coulis 1 cup blackberry sirup 450ml double cream To start off, make the blackberry coulis by carefully simmering approximately 1...
