Getting all the dogs in a line

LaSS is not just a club for ladies who enjoy clay shooting, we try to organise a wide range of country life related activities and this Saturday was our first ever dog training day! The day was an introduction to working your dog off the lead, steadiness and simple gundog training – things that dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes need to know and can enjoy. It was a very mixed bag of abilities, ages and breeds from Shelties to German Shorthaired Pointers and Spaniels – all eager to learn under the watchful eye of trainer Ilona from Come Sit and Play.

Ilona did an amazing job and both dogs and handlers were put through their paces as the dogs practiced steadiness, stop whistles and heel work. The group then moved on to retrieving with a number of great exercises challenging the dogs with both seen and blind pick-ups. Even dogs who never worked with dummies before were picking up and retrieving beautifully by the end of the day. Ilona gave each handler invaluable personal advice on how to work with their dogs and training exercises to take home.

All in all the dog was a great success and we are hoping to arrange many more dog days for both gundogs and for those who just wish to have better control on and off the lead.
